Due to the pre-monsoon and monsoon rains in Nashik in June, the water level of the dams has increased significantly. Currently, the usable water storage in 26 major projects in the district has reached 47.42 per cent, which is a relief for the district.
This year, the rains made a strong appearance in the district ahead of time in the form of unseasonal pre-monsoon rains. Due to the heavy rains in the month of June, the storage in the dams increased. On June 1, only 24 per cent of the water storage was left in the major dams. However, as June progressed, the storage reached 47.42 per cent.
Currently, 33,491 MCF of water has been stored in the dams. Last year, the storage was only seven per cent on June 30. Continuous rains in Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri talukas have given a new lease of life to the Gangapur and Darna groups. All four projects in the Gangapur group, which quenches the thirst of Nashik residents, have created 5,700 million cubic feet of water, which is 56 per cent. As water inflows into the dams are continuing, discharge from the Gangapur dam has been going on for the last eight days.
Average rainfall in June is 220 mm
Although the intensity of rainfall has decreased in the district, light showers were recorded at many places on Monday (June 30). The district received an average of 220.4 mm of rainfall in June, which is 126 per cent of the current month's average. Trimbakeshwar taluka recorded the highest rainfall of 661 mm.
In addition, Peth taluka received 501 mm and Igatpuri 452 mm rainfall. Malegaon 92 mm, Baglan 133 mm, Kalwan 174 mm, Nandgaon 106 mm, Surgana 365 mm, Nashik 258 mm, Dindori 277 mm, Niphad 183 mm, Sinnar 164 mm, Yeola 155 mm, Chandwad 179 mm and Deola 99 mm rainfall has been recorded in June.
On Monday, moderate rainfall occurred at some places in Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Peth and Surgana talukas. Light showers occurred in the remaining talukas. The Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for the Ghats of the district and a 'Yellow Alert' for the remaining places for Wednesday (July 2).
