Pune: Two Arrested for Selling Dangerous Bodybuilding Drug Injections in Shivajinagar, Drugs Linked to Heart Attacks and Paralysis |

Two individuals have been arrested for their involvement in selling Mephentermine Sulphate injections, a bodybuilding drug, in the Shivajinagar jurisdiction. The incident came to light on December 19 when the police seized 14 vials of Mephentermine injections along with a car. The arrests were made during a routine patrol when a car was stopped near Sakhar Sankul for a check. The police found the injections and detained the accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepak Wadekar (32), a resident of Khadki, and Sajan Jadhav (28), a resident of Sangli.

According to the police, the patrolling staff from Shivajinagar Police Station was conducting a routine check in the area when, around 12:30 a.m., they spotted a suspicious car with blacked-out windows. During the inspection, the officers discovered 14 Mephentermine injections and two syringes in the vehicle.

The accused were unable to provide any proper documentation, such as a prescription or bill, for the drugs. The police stated that the injections were being used by the suspects for bodybuilding. The seized vials were sent to the Drug Department for documentation, and the vehicle was also seized.

Chandra Sekhar Sawant, Senior Police Inspector of Shivajinagar Police Station, speaking to the Free Press Journal, said, “The patrolling team detained them with the injections near Sakhar Sankul Building at Narveer Tanaji Wadi. These injections are often used by youths and gym-goers to boost stamina and extend exercise durations. We have arrested them, and the investigation is ongoing.”

A case has been registered under Sections 278, 125, and 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Wadekar and Jadhav.

Health Hazards

Avinash Bhondave, Health Analyst and former president of the Indian Medical Association, Maharashtra State, speaking to the Free Press Journal, emphasized, “Mephentermine injections are restricted medicines typically used to raise blood pressure in patients. A high dose of these injections can lead to severe health risks, such as heart attacks or paralysis. These medications should only be used in hospitals under the guidance of a licensed doctor. Using them for bodybuilding purposes is highly dangerous. Gym-goers usually rely on anabolic steroids for muscle growth, which poses its own set of health risks."
