Pune is experiencing its hottest April in over a decade, with temperatures crossing 40°C on multiple days and Lohegaon hitting a scorching 42.6°C — the highest in the state this month.

"This April so far, Pune Shivajinagar has recorded 13 days with a temperature greater than 40°C. This is the highest number of +40°C days in April in the last 12 years," said the IMD scientist.

The Lohegaon area experienced an intense heatwave on Monday, with temperatures soaring to 42.6 degrees Celsius — the highest recorded in Maharashtra. According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Lohegaon exceeded the normal by 4.1 degrees Celsius.

The ten weather stations across Pune, including Shivajinagar and Pashan, reported maximum temperatures at or above 40 degrees Celsius. Shivajinagar alone has seen such temperatures for the last 21 days, and the IMD predicts the city is likely to witness a further surge in temperature.

Rainfall in Vidarbha

The Vidarbha region witnessed a yellow alert as light rainfall in isolated pockets through April 30 is expected. Weather experts highlighted that an upper-air cyclonic circulation is positioned over central Assam, while a north-south trough extends from West Vidarbha to the Gulf of Mannar. Additionally, a western disturbance is influencing the weather patterns from southwest Rajasthan.

Under the influence of these systems, the Vidarbha region is likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, till April 30.
