In the final standing committee meeting of the financial year 2024-25, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved 112 proposals worth approximately Rs 150 crore for various development works. These projects include improvements in water supply, solid waste management, parks, roads, social development and the education sector.

For the last two days, municipal authorities were working rigorously to ensure that pending proposals were submitted and approved before the end of the financial year. During the meeting, chaired by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Rajendra Bhosale, 89 topics were presented and approved.

Topics discussed and approved during the meetings include water supply by tankers in Uruli Devachi, installation of electric charging stations for PMPML buses and micro-surfacing work on bridges across the city. Procurement of sanitation buckets for waste management, providing free nutritious food to tuberculosis patients, drainage line projects in various areas, and infrastructure development in village areas like Dhayari, Narhe, Nandoshi, Sanaswadi and Kirkitwadi. The other key topics that were discussed were improving facilities in kindergartens and municipal schools.

While urgent city matters are usually submitted and approved through the standing committee, concerns have been raised over the increasing number of approvals without sufficient discussions. Experts raised concerns that the process is being misused, as several proposals are passed without a detailed review of their necessity and impact.
