The condition of the service road near the Pashan-Sus flyover in Pune has worsened due to the intense rains, with massive potholes turning daily commutes into a nightmare.
The stretch is frequently used by local residents and office-goers, and it has become nearly impassable in certain patches due to poor maintenance. The residents took the matter to social media and tagged Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, demanding immediate action.
Kiran Patil, a resident of Pashan, said, "The entire stretch has become muddy and slippery, and the potholes have made the condition even worse. Due to the potholes, motorists report frequent breakdowns, tyre damage and safety hazards, especially during peak hours and rainy days. "It's not just inconvenient, it’s dangerous. Two-wheelers skid and even cars struggle to navigate the road," he added.
Surbhi Dhingra, another resident of Pashan, said, "I had a minor accident at that stretch, and you can't even avoid that route as there is only one alternate route, and it's long, so people use this stretch a lot. It's raining, and the people are putting their lives in peril to just cross these stretches. We deserve better. The accident that happened to me was a minor one, but imagine if authorities keep on ignoring this stretch, some big Incident can happen here in future."
"Despite repeated complaints, there has been no visible repair work initiated by the civic authorities. We urge the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and relevant departments to take urgent steps to fill the potholes and ensure safe travel for thousands of daily commuters," another resident said on the condition of anonymity.
A social media user took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted, "The service road on Pune-Mumbai highway towards Sus Road (before FML Pashan) has very large potholes, which is making it impossible to go to Sus Road from the highway. Please look urgently."
