Pune: Man Sends Sister To Mental Hospital, Mother To Old Age Home To Seize Ancestral Property |

While we often hear stories of selfishness and greed, a story from Pune has shocked the conscience, as a 54-year-old man allegedly sent his sister to a mental hospital and his elderly mother to an old age home in an attempt to seize their ancestral property in one of the posh housing societies in Pune.

The shocking incident took place in Sindh Housing Society in Aundh under the Chaturshringi police jurisdiction. The accused, identified as Dharmendra Indore Rai, a resident of Chembur, Mumbai, allegedly used deceit and force to try and take over the family home.

Injected sister and forcefully admitted her

According to police, Rai injected his elder sister under the guise of a blood test and, with the help of four female bouncers, forcibly admitted her to a psychiatric hospital—despite her being mentally stable. On the same day, he also admitted their mother to an old age home against her will.

The sister and mother had been residing in the ancestral property. After the incident, the sister managed to escape with the help of friends and neighbours and subsequently filed a police complaint at Chaturshringi police station.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Dharmendra Rai and the four bouncers under various sections of the Mental Health Care Act.

A senior police official stated, "When the complainant realised she had been wrongfully admitted, she contacted friends and neighbours, managed to rescue herself, and came forward to file the complaint."

Property disputes in Pune are common due to rapid urbanization, inheritance issues, and unclear documentation, often leading to legal battles and conflicts among family members and local residents. But this particular case has shocked people.

In March, a 27-year-old man in Pune deliberately set fire to over a dozen two-wheelers belonging to residents of his housing society after his mother refused to give him money for drugs. The act took place around 3 a.m. in a residential area of Pimpri Chinchwad and was recorded on CCTV.
