Pune entrepreneur Ravi Kumar, who goes by X (formerly Twitter) handle @DefenceBrat, took to the microblogging site and said he was seeking military veterans who are willing to contest the municipal corporation polls to bring "real change" in the city.
"Will people in Pune vote for 160 independent candidates who are military veterans? If yes, Iβll start finding good and honest veterans from Pune who have served the country and now want to improve the city. I believe they can bring real change. Because honestly, no political party can," Kumar wrote.
Netizens said that it was a great idea and that they would vote for those who promise to make the city liveable.
"Will vote for whoever promises and makes the best infra without any corruption. We as a city have unlimited potential if only the right measures are implemented," a user commented.

"Excellent initiative. The ones who have served the nation, keeping their nation above their own lives, are truly selfless individuals. Huge respect to them and their families," another user stated.
"Absolutely yes! We need leaders who are really going to work for the people and not just give false promises," wrote a third user.
Meanwhile, the PMC polls are likely to be held after Diwali.
Besides, the city is likely to have 44 wards with four corporators per ward β taking the total to 176 corporators. Until 2022, PMC had 162 corporators.
