In a shocking incident in Pune, a retired police officer was brutally beaten by three youths after he asked them to move their parked two-wheelers, which were blocking the road. The accused allegedly attacked him with a stick and kicked and punched him, leaving him seriously injured.
The incident took place on June 24 at Chawan Nagar in Dhankawadi. Regarding the matter, a case has been registered at the Sahkarnagar Police station.
The accused have been identified as Sunil Gautam Kasabe (30, resident of Dhankawadi), Jatin Madhukar Bole (22, resident of Shriramnagar Chawl, near Govindrao Patil Nagar, Dhankawadi), and one of their friends.
According to the information, the complainant Praveen Yashwant Patil (58) has retired from the police force in 2024 and currently resides in Dhankawadi with his wife, while their children live abroad.
Patil was returning home on his two-wheeler when he saw the accused standing at the corner of the Rajiv Gandhi Vasahat, while their bikes were parked haphazardly across the road.
When Patil asked them to move the bikes aside, they responded aggressively, saying, “What’s your problem? Just pass by.”
When he stopped his vehicle to speak, Bole allegedly ran towards him and grabbed him by the collar. Meanwhile, Kasabe and another accomplice began beating him with kicks and punches. Bole also allegedly assaulted the retired officer with a stick.
As the attack unfolded, nearby women started screaming for help, drawing the attention of residents. Seeing the crowd gather, the accused fled the scene, threatening the officer by saying, “We will deal with you later.”
Patil suffered serious injuries to both eyes and started bleeding from the nose. Later, he was taken to Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital for treatment.
Senior Police Inspector Rahul Gaud of Sahakarnagar Police Station, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, "Police has detained two of them. Further investigation is underway. The dispute arose over a parking issue, and later the argument turned into an altercation. Medical help has been given to Patil, and he is safe now."
