Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has penalised more than 34,000 vehicle owners in four months for violating the traffic norms on major highways linked to Pune, including Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Satara, Pune-Solapur and Pune-Nagar.
The action was taken between January 2025 and April 2025 by the RTO. As per the RTO data, 34,126 vehicles owners were caught violating traffic rules and Rs 6.37 crore was collected in fines.
Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, told The Free Press Journal, "Traffic violations are the reason behind the traffic jams and accidents on roads and highways. The RTO will take more action to curb such nuisances and unwanted accidents. Following the rules is mandatory for all. People need to understand. The checking team will take more action on the highways in the upcoming days."

Vehicles without fitness - 2323
Private vehicles without permit -1016

The action has been taken on vehicles under relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act
