Punekars flock to pubs and city roads every year for New Year's celebrations in Pune. The crowd brings with it a lot of issues such as drunk driving, rash driving, noise pollution, and underage driving. Therefore, the city police make thorough arrangements each year to maintain law and order in the city.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Pune, said, "For the celebration days, December 31 and January 1, 2025, around 3,000 police personnel have been deployed for public safety and smooth celebrations. 700 traffic police staff will be active at several places identified as risk zones, and action will be taken against traffic violators such as rash driving, triple seating, or wrong-side driving, etc."

23 drunk driving prone areas identified

"Approximately 23 drunk driving zones have been identified, and our dedicated team will keep an eye on them. Moreover, we have received information about 40 places that have been permitted for celebrations," he said.

"We have instructed the pubs, restaurants, hotels, and licensed holders to follow the rules. If they do anything to attract customers that violates regulations, we will take strict action. In the pubs and bars, if any juveniles are found consuming alcohol, the owner will face the cancellation of their license," he added.
