The police arrested the accused for establishing sexual relations with a 17-year-old minor girl, a resident of Chikala in Hadgaon taluka in Nanded district and making her pregnant. The accused has been remanded in police custody. The co-accused in the case and former zilla parishad member is still absconding. The police is also trying to search the accused, who tried to purchase the baby of the rape victim.
According to the details, accused Baburao Tupekar (55), brought the victim to his village after the death of her mother and maternal uncle. Her father and brother are working as farm labourers. The accused taking advantage of the situation established sexual relations with the minor girl by giving her sedatives. The girl became pregnant and she delivered a girl child in the government hospital in Vishnupuri, last month.
The accused then pressurized the victim and her family and gave the baby to a relative of a nurse in the hospital. He tried to get rid of the case by giving Rs 1 lakh to family members of the victim.
Meanwhile, the victim went to the Tamsa police on April 14 and told them about her misery. A case was registered against the accused Tupekar and he was immediately arrested. He was presented before the court the next day and was remanded in police custody for three days.
The co-accused in the case and former ZP member Baburao Chonde is absconding and the police is also searching the person who tried to purchase the baby. API Sahdev Khedkar is further investigating the case.
