In good news for Punekars, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said that he has given "clear instructions" to complete the reconstruction work of Pune Airport's old terminal by August this year.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) late on Tuesday, the Pune MP wrote, "With the new terminal at Pune Airport now fully operational, reconstruction work on the old terminal is currently in progress. Today, an on-site review was conducted along with airport officials to assess the ongoing work."
"The existing new terminal spans 36,000 sq. meters. An additional 6,000 sq. meters will be added as part of the redevelopment. The Modi government has generously allocated ₹25 crore to support this effort. Post-redevelopment, the airport will feature 48 check-in counters and is expected to handle up to 1.05 crore passengers annually. Plans also include 2 automated boarding gates, 1 new departure gate, and expanded ticket counters," he added.
"Clear instructions have been issued to ensure the work is completed by August this year, maintaining both timelines and high-quality standards," Mohol further said.
Earlier on Monday, Mohol said that the Pune Metro will be connected to the Pune Airport, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared for the project by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Regarding the route, he said it will run from Kharadi to Pune Airport and will be part of the Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi line.

Speaking about the long-pending Purandar Airport, he said that land acquisition is currently being carried out by the state government through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). A sub-divisional officer has been appointed for each village, and land acquisition notifications have already been issued, he added.
