The long travel times between Mumbai, Pune and Nashik are soon to be a thing of the past as two major infrastructure projects near completion. According to reports, the final 76-kilometre stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, running from Igatpuri to Amane (near Bhiwandi), is expected to open for public use within the next few days. Additionally, the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link project is also nearing completion and is set to open in August.

Benefits of the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expansion

The opening of this final stretch will significantly ease travel between Mumbai and Nashik while also reducing traffic congestion. The new highway section includes five tunnels and 16 bridges, enhancing connectivity and boosting Maharashtra’s economy. Increased transportation efficiency will benefit farmers and businesses alike, making trade and travel more seamless.

Once fully operational, the Samruddhi Mahamarg will allow for direct travel from Mumbai to Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur without the need to navigate the congested Kasara Ghat. Currently, travellers from Mumbai to Igatpuri use the old Mumbai-Nashik highway before switching to the expressway. The completion of the final stretch will provide a bypass for the Kasara Ghat, cutting down travel time and making the journey smoother.

Key cities connected by the Samruddhi Mahamarg

The Samruddhi Mahamarg spans a total of 701 kilometers, linking Nagpur to Mumbai. This major expressway significantly reduces travel time between Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik and Mumbai, improving both personal and commercial transport.

Expected opening date

Reportedly, the final work on crash barriers, signboards and other safety measures is underway. The project is expected to be fully completed by March 15, with the final stretch of the expressway opening to the public by mid-to-late March. This long-awaited development promises to transform travel and economic activity across Maharashtra.
