While the uproar over the recent Swargate rape case continues in Pune, The Free Press Journal has found out that the third accused in the infamous Bopdev Ghat gang rape case is yet to be arrested by the Pune Crime Branch even after five months of the crime.
Two accused in the case have been arrested, and a coordinated manhunt is currently on for the third aide.
For the uninitiated, a woman was allegedly raped by three men on the night of October 3 in the Bopdev Ghat area on the outskirts of Maharashtra's Pune city during an outing with a male friend. The assailants beat up her friend too.
Two held
Earlier, police told a Pune court that two persons arrested in the October 3 gang rape case of a 21-year-old woman in Pune tried to mislead them by giving wrong information about their friend who was also involved in the crime and is at large.
The police have now found the real name of the third accused, and they are on a mission to find him, a crime branch official told the Free Press Journal.
The two accused arrested in the case have been identified as Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojiya, a native of Madhya Pradesh, and Akhtar Babu Shaikh, hailing from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, according to police.
'He is on police radar'
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade, speaking to the Free Press Journal, said, "We have identified the third accused involved in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case. He is on the police radar. However, the accused continuously keeps changing his location. The accused could be a native of Latur. A dedicated team has been deployed in his search operation, and soon he will be behind bars."
