Forum For IT Employees (FITE) mourned the death of 23-year-old engineer Piyush Kawade, who took his own life by jumping off the seventh floor of the Atlas Copco building in Pune's Hinjawadi on Monday.

"Today, we mourn the tragic loss of Piyush Kawade, a 23‑year‑old IT engineer, who took his life after jumping from the 7th floor of the Atlas Copco building in Hinjawadi, Pune. Our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and the broader IT community during this unimaginably difficult time. FITE will try to be in touch with Piyush's family and support them with any help needed in this hour," FITE wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"Nobody should take this kind of extreme step in life, whatever the situation is. Talk to friends, family and counsellors if facing any issues. This heartbreaking incident reinforces the urgent need for stronger mental health support systems within the IT industry across India. We must advocate for workplace environments that prioritise mental wellness, early intervention, and open dialogue," it added.
Reportedly, Kawade had left a brief suicide note for his father, stating that "he does not deserve to be his son." He also apologised for taking the extreme step, an official said.

"He had been working with Atlas Copco for the last one and a half years. Around 10.30am, he went to the terrace of the company and jumped off the seventh floor," the official added.
Though Kawade had not mentioned anything about the workload or pressure, police are investigating various angles to understand the trigger for the suicide.
