A 25-year-old man pretending to be an IAS officer from the Indian Army was caught by locals and handed over to police in Janawale village, Taluka Guhagar. The suspect, identified as Prathamesh Shantaram Yewale, a native of Aundh, Khatav, District Satara, had been roaming in the area for a few days, falsely claiming to hold a high-ranking government post.
Locals grew suspicious when Yewale began abusing and threatening villagers, prompting them to alert the Guhagar Police Station. Acting on the tip-off, the police took Yewale into custody and launched an investigation.
Police Naik Swamini Natekar filed a formal complaint, leading to the registration of a case against Yewale for possessing a fake IAS identity card and for issuing threats to citizens. He has been booked under Sections 204 and 336(2) of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Bhopal, guided by Police Inspector Sachin Sawant. Further inquiry into the extent of Yewale’s impersonation and possible motives is ongoing.
