"In the wee hours of May 19, in the upscale Kalyani Nagar area, a Porsche car, allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol by a 17-year-old boy, whose father is a well-known real estate developer, knocked down and killed two software professionals who were on a motorbike.

The names of these techies were Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, residents of Madhya Pradesh.

The case led to a nationwide uproar due to the immediate bail granted to the minor accused and the handling of the case by the cops.

The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) had granted bail to the accused on very lenient terms, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety.

On June 25, it was reported that the Bombay High Court ordered the release of the minor boy.

Thus, now, while the juvenile involved in the case has been released from an observation home, his parents, two doctors and a staffer from Sassoon Hospital, two middlemen, and three others are in jail.

The case had hit national headlines over cover-up efforts from various quarters, including swapping blood samples to nullify alcohol tests.

Dismissal of Two Cops

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Pune police submitted a proposal to the Maharashtra Home Department, recommending the dismissal of two officers who had been suspended in connection with the Porsche car accident.

Inspector Rahul Jagdale and API Vishwanath Todkari, both of whom were stationed at the Yerawada police station, faced suspension due to delayed reporting and negligence of their duties. An internal investigation revealed several issues, including errors in the case registration and delays in obtaining blood samples.

"Pune police have forwarded a proposal to the state home department, requesting the dismissal of these two officers. The proposal was submitted today," said Amitesh Kumar, Pune's police commissioner.
