The possibility of local governing bodies elections heading nearer cannot be ruled out. Against this backdrop, the administration is under pressure due to the guidelines of completing the ambitious water supply scheme within a speculated time frame. A meeting chaired by the outgoing Divisional Commissioner Dilip Gawade was held on Thursday to review the ongoing work of the scheme. It is expected that the work of the water supply scheme will be completed by the end of October 2025. Presently, the water need of the city is 160 MLD, and it will be necessary to start two more pumps in the next five months to suffice the water need, Gawade clarified while talking to the newsmen.
A review meeting of the water supply scheme for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was held in Mumbai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 28. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) Administrator G Sreekanth, Commissioner of Police Praveen Pawar, SP Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) Chief Engineer Manisha Palande, CSMC engineers, and representatives of the GVPR Company were present.
The work of the Jackwell under the scheme may be delayed. By the end of October, the planning is being made so that 200 MLD water can be pumped from the dam. Gawade directed to deploy additional manpower and machines for completing the task. By the end of October, three water tanks will be handed over to CSMC.
Gawade said that when he assumed charge, the work of the scheme was 55% complete, and 25% work had been accomplished in 12 months. The work may be hampered due to the rainy season. Chief Minister Fadnavis has given the deadline to complete the remaining 20% of work.
The municipal corporation elections were not held due to COVID and other reasons. Now, it is likely that the election will be held soon. Water issues always remain at the apex in the elections, and it is important for the ruling parties that the work of the water supply scheme should be completed in the given time. Hence, the pressure on the administration has increased now.
