A major accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on the Pune-Bengaluru highway near Atit village in Satara taluka, when a private bus heading from Bengaluru to Mumbai rammed into a goods truck and then into a trolley.
The bus driver sustained injuries, while all the 35 passengers onboard miraculously escaped unhurt. The injured driver has been identified as Ravi Talwar (39), a resident of Karwar in Karnataka.
The accident led to a major disruption in traffic on the highway for some time.

How did the accident happen?
The private bus was travelling from Satara to Karad when it first hit a goods truck and then lost control, crashing into a trolley parked on the roadside near Atit village. The impact caused the bus's bonnet to break, and the steering struck the driver in the chest, injuring him.
The trolley that was hit by the bus was parked beside a coconut tree. The bus came to a halt after colliding with the tree. Had the tree not been there, the bus would have crashed straight into the house of the Savekar family, where five people were asleep at the time.
Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the scene. A case related to the accident has been registered at the Borgaon Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
