Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday and said she met Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar regarding issues concerning Pune.
She wrote, "Met Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi and discussed the important urban issues of Pune city in detail and submitted a memorandum to resolve those issues."
"The minister assured that the government will take necessary decisions as soon as possible to resolve these issues in Pune city," she added.
While Kulkarni didn't mention what issues were discussed during the meeting, one of them would most probably be the frequent traffic congestion in Pune.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently said that the government would resolve the traffic issues in the Pune Metropolitan Region and take up infrastructure works that would increase the average travel speed to 30 km per hour by December 2026 from the existing speed of 12 km per hour.
"The current travel speed in Pune is 12 km per hour, which is very slow. Thus, there will be efforts taken to increase the speed of travel to 30 km per hour, which is the global benchmark for metro cities. This we will try to achieve by December 2026; so the infrastructure work will be sped up in Pune,ā said Fadnavis.
The CM added that a network would be created of roads, tunnels, railway overbridges and grade separators in Pune for smooth and fast flow of traffic.
He also spoke about increasing the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) fleet from 2,000 to 6,000 in two years.
