In good news for commuters waiting for the completion of Metro Line 3 (Shivajinagar–Hinjewadi), the trial run on an 11-km stretch of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line is set to begin in September.
As per the report by HT, these trials will be held on the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) stretch of the route.
However, the daily rides will begin next year.
Recently, the project completion deadline was extended from February 2025 to September 2025. However, another request for a deadline extension has been submitted to PMRDA.

The 24-km-long elevated route from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi is set to have 23 stations, namely: Megapolis Circle, Embassy Quadron Business Park, Dohler, Infosys Phase II, Wipro Phase II, Pall India, Shivaji Chowk, Hinjewadi, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, NICMAR, Ram Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Krushi Anusandhan, Sakal Nagar, University, RBI, Agriculture College, Shivajinagar, and Civil Court.
Earlier in March, all the land required for the Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 project was made available. The project required 263.78 sq. m. of land near the Raj Bhavan office in the Pune University area. A proposal was submitted for this in November 2022. With the approval of the transfer of this land by the Raj Bhavan office, the entire land required for the metro project is now available.
This metro project is 23.203 km long and is being implemented on the basis of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The project was approved by the government on February 9, 2018.
This 23.3 km-long Line 3 will not only enhance daily commutes but also boost development and ease traffic congestion across the city. Meanwhile, in good news for commuters, Maha Metro and PMRDA are in talks to construct a foot overbridge (FOB) to connect the Civil Court and Shivajinagar Metro stations.
