The nuisance of reckless riders riding Bullets with modified silencers is not new. Time and again, Pune Traffic Police take action against such riders. However, it has not stopped many from modifying their silencers.
Thus, to create awareness and inform people about the possible actions they can take against such riders, a police official from Pune Traffic Division, Aatish Kharade, has created and sung a song with his guitar to the tune of 'Kaise Tu Gungunaye.'
In the song, he appeals to Punekars not to worry about such riders, as strict action will be taken against them. He urges them to send videos or photos of the bikes to the given number, assuring that their names will not be involved, but action will be taken against the riders.
He has called the riders who modify their silencers 'chapari' and asked people to report such 'chapari.'
Kharade is known for his songs on traffic awareness. Earlier, Aatish Kharade had come up with a unique version of 'Ved Lavlay,' the title track of the Marathi film Ved. Kharade's version aimed at creating awareness about the use of helmets.
Modified silencers
According to the Motor Vehicles Act, any modifications to vehicles are prohibited. This widespread practice not only flouts legal provisions but also significantly contributes to noise pollution, disturbing the peace in various parts of the city, both day and night.
It is illegal to install and use aftermarket exhausts/modified silencers on public roads. They create a noise that is much louder than the stock exhausts, contributing to noise pollution.
Police said that modifying silencers to increase volume is not permissible. However, many bikers install them for the thrill, causing trouble for other motorists.
