In response to the directives from the Home Ministry, Maharashtra will conduct mock drills in districts including Pune.
Among the 244 places where the mock drills will take place are Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Thane, and several other locations in Maharashtra.
These include 85 places in Pune where sirens will be installed for civil defence mock drills, as informed by the Civil Defence Deputy Controller in Pune.
The last time such a nationwide civil defence exercise was held was during the lead-up to the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

The Union Home Ministry has asked several states to conduct mock drills on May 7 for effective civil defence. The measures to be undertaken include the operationalisation of Air Raid Warning Sirens and the training of civilians, students, etc., on civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack.
The measures also include the provision of crash blackout measures, provision for early camouflaging of vital installations, and updating of the evacuation plan and its rehearsal.
