New Delhi, March 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to announce the Mahila Samriddhi Scheme on Saturday, March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day.

The scheme was a key commitment in the party's manifesto during the Delhi assembly polls. Ahead of the announcement, the Delhi cabinet convened today to discuss its implementation.

Here's everything you need to know about the scheme:

What Is the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana?

The Delhi Mahila Samriddhi Yojana aligns with similar initiatives in BJP-ruled states, such as the Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh and the Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra. Announced in the election manifesto, this scheme aims to provide Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections in Delhi.

Positioned as a direct counter to the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) promise of Rs 2,100 monthly aid for women, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana reinforces the ruling party's focus on women-centric welfare programs. By offering financial support, the scheme aims to enhance the economic stability of women in the national capital.

Who Is Eligible For It?

As per reports, women aged 18-60 residing in Delhi, with a family income below Rs 3 lakh per year and who are non-taxpayers, will be eligible for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. However, government employees and those already receiving aid from other government schemes will be excluded from the benefits.

How to Register?

The Delhi government is developing an online portal for registration and setting up an IT system to verify applications and identify eligible beneficiaries. To streamline the process, other government departments have been asked to share relevant data.

The required documents for the registration will include the Aadhaar card, ration card, address proof, and a registered mobile number of the applicant.

When Will Rs 2,500 Get Credited?

Around 15-20 lakh women are expected to benefit from the scheme. To streamline the selection process, the Delhi government will reportedly integrate data from the Chief Electoral Officer and the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The portal will link applications to Aadhaar and verify eligibility against existing government aid.

Beneficiaries will receive financial assistance after completing registration and scrutiny, though no specific deadline has been announced.
