Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert on May 13, forecasting light to moderate showers throughout the day. Commuters were caught off guard by the unseasonal downpour, which officials attributed to pre-monsoon activity.

The yellow alert will remain active, with further scattered rain expected. On Tuesday morning, several areas of Mumbai, including Mulund, Powai, Marol, Saki Naka, and Bhandup, experienced brief rain, bringing some relief from the city's humidity.

Additionally, a fresh yellow alert was released on Monday for Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts, valid until Wednesday. The IMD anticipates that the light showers from Monday will intensify into thunderstorms with strong winds and moderate rains by Tuesday. A nowcast warning issued at 9:30 am suggested potential thunderstorms with lightning and light rain, along with gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h in the suburban areas over the next few hours.
