Mumbai: Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister office has been appointed as new commissioner and administrator of BMC. Dr. Bhushan Gagrani is 1990 batch IAS officer He had secured third rank in the IAS exam and he is the first IAS officer who had given IAS exam in Marathi language.
Gagrani has passed M.Com degree and M.A. in history form Kolhapur university. He has completed LLB from Nagpur University and also obtained MBA degree from Birmingham university. He also did a PHD in administration from Mumbai university.
In the initial years Gagrani had looked at land Revenue Administration, District Administration and Development administration related work. He was CEO of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Zila Parishad, Director of youth Development and Sports department at Pune, District Collector of Sindhudurga district.
He also did good work as MD of MIDC, Deputy Secretary in Mantralaya, Secretary of Maharashtra tourism, Secretary of Medical education and drugs, Secretary of public health department, MD of CIDCO.
He also held posts as Principal secretary in the CMO office and Urban Development department. Before taking charge as BMC commissioner he was Additional Chief Secretary at CMO office and he was also looking at administration work of Urban Development, Water resources and Marathi language.
On Wednesday evening he was welcomed by his predecessor Dr. Iqbal Singh Chahal and Additional Commissioner Dr. Ashwini Joshi, Dr.Amit Saini, Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, joint Commissioner Milin Sawant, Ramesh Pawar and DMC Chandrashekhar Choure.
Moreover, former Thane municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar has taken charge of the Additional Commissioner Project in BMC. He is a 2008 batch IAS officer. He secured a degree in MA Economics. Bangar had worked as Assistant Collector of Mangaon, CEO of Raigad Zila Parishad, CEO of Satara zila parishad, Collector of Palghar, Amravati.
He was Commissioner of Nagpur, Divisional collector of Nagpur and Navi Mumbai Commissioner. Before posting in BMC he was commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation. Bangar was felicitated best collector in the year 2016-17. He took charge from Ashwini Bhide in absence of P. Velarasu.
Dr. Amit Saini has taken Charge as Additional Commissioner Easter suburbs from Ashwini Bhide. Saini is 2007 batch IAS officer and has also secured an MBBS degree in Medicine.
He also held many positions in the administration of Maharashtra government. He was joint Commissioner of Sales tax and Maharashtra Rajya lottery department, Secretary of Vidarbha statutory Development Corporation. Before posting to BMC he was working as director in Jal Jeevan Mission.
Apart from that Saurabh Rao has been appointed as Thane Municipal Commissioner and Kailash Shinde is appointed as Navi Mumbai Commissioner.
