Nagpur: Fahim Khan, the city president of the Minorities Democratic Party (MDP), has been identified by the Nagpur police as the key instigator of the violence that erupted in Nagpur city on Monday evening. According to the second FIR registered at Ganeshpeth police station, Khan allegedly incited a mob of around 500 people, leading to large-scale clashes, vandalism and attacks on local police.
Fahim Khan’s Political & Legal Background
Fahim Shamim Khan contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur as a candidate for the Minority Democratic Party. His election affidavit stated that he had completed his education up to the 10th standard and was engaged in business.

According to his financial disclosures, Khan declared assets worth only Rs 75,000 and reported no liabilities or annual income. However, the affidavit also revealed that Khan had three pending criminal cases against him, though none were classified as serious. Khan received 1,073 votes in the elections.
Khan's Role In Nagpur Violence
According to a report by TV9 Bharatvarsh, the FIR suggests that Khan played a central role in organizing and leading the mob. The unrest began after members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a protest near Gandhi Gate, chanting slogans against Aurangzeb’s tomb and burning a symbolic effigy.
In response, a large crowd gathered under Khan’s leadership, reportedly armed with axes, stones, and sticks. The situation escalated as protesters displayed aggressive behaviour, aimed at spreading fear and disrupting social harmony.
Violence Against Police & Damaging Public Property
The mob launched a brutal assault in the Bhhaldarpura Chowk area, targeting officers with stones and weapons. In an attempt to overpower the police, they reportedly prepared and hurled petrol bombs. The violence was not limited to attacks on cops; some individuals within the crowd allegedly took advantage of the chaos to harass female police officers.
The FIR mentions that a female officer from the Rapid Response Team (RCP) was physically harassed, while other women officers faced obscene gestures and inappropriate comments. Vehicles were set ablaze, and extensive damage was inflicted on public and private property.
Casualties and Injuries
The violent clashes left 33 police personnel injured, including three deputy commissioners. One officer was reportedly attacked with an axe. Five civilians were also injured in the violence, with three receiving minor injuries and being discharged after treatment, while one remains in critical condition in the ICU.
