Water resources expert Sriram Vedire has been appointed as the advisor to CM Devendra Fadnavis. Accorded a status equal to a minister of state (MoS), he will advise the CM on drafting a long-term policy for the water resources and river linking projects.
A former advisor to the Union ministry of Jal Shaki, Vedire has vast experience in the field of water management, including working as an engineer for 15 years in the USA. He will directly report to Fadnavis and enjoy the protocol and remuneration entitled to a MoS. His appointment will be co-terminus meaning he will continue in the role till the CM remains in the office. His financial package will be borne by the Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation.
Besides policy matters on water management, Vedire will advise on data-driven governance by coordinating with Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), Water Resources Authority and Remote Sensing Application Centre. His other tasks include coordination with the Union ministry of Jal Shakti, NITI Aayog, National Water Mission and working on disputes related to water distribution with other states.
Apart from the academic contribution with NGOs, varsities and water resources experts, Vedire will guide on securing environmental clearances and approvals for coastal regulation zone-related issues.
After the appointment of MITRA CEO Praveen Pardeshi as the chief financial advisor to CM, this one is going to be a crucial appointment at the CMO.
