Five godowns and two tea stalls were destroyed after a major fire broke out at a complex in Shilphata Thane on Tuesday, an official from the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) said. He said no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Three godowns where plastic, wooden materials and paper waste were kept and two empty godowns and two tea stalls located nearby were damaged. A gas cylinder in one of the tea stalls also exploded. The blaze was brought under control after about five hours. A probe was on to ascertain the cause of the fire, the official added.
Avinash Sawant, RDMC chief, Thane said, "No person was injured in the fire which erupted at around 2 am in the godown complex located at Shilphata on Mumbra-Panvel road."
Sawant added, "Three godowns two tea stalls located nearby were destroyed in the fire. Soon after receiving the information the four fire engines were rushed to the spot along with the RDMC team. The blaze was brought under control after about five hours. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the site."
