Mumbai: Maharashtra Samajwadi Party (SP) president Abu Asim Azmi appeared before the Mumbai Police on Wednesday in connection with his controversial remarks about Aurangzeb. Following a court order, Azmi presented himself at the Marine Drive police station, where an investigation officer questioned him regarding the case. Security was heightened at the police station during his appearance.

According to a senior police official, Azmi arrived at the Marine Drive police station around 12 PM and remained there for approximately 25 minutes. During this time, he was interrogated, and his statement is set to be recorded today.

On Tuesday, the Mumbai Sessions Court granted Azmi anticipatory bail, directing him to appear before the investigating officer on March 12, 13, and 15 between 11 AM and 1 PM. In compliance with the court's directive, Azmi appeared at the police station on Wednesday. He is also required to be present for questioning on March 15. Earlier, he had requested a two-day extension to appear before the police, but his request was denied.

The case was registered against Azmi at the Marine Drive police station after his remarks on Aurangzeb sparked controversy. To avoid arrest, he had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail, which was granted on Tuesday. Further developments in the case will depend on the findings of the police investigation and Azmi’s statements in the upcoming hearings.
