Mumbai: A renowned boutique, Libas by Riyaz Gangji located on Pedder road caught was engulfed in fire on Monday morning. The 4000 square feet big garment showroom is housed on the ground floor of the six storeyed Sukh Shanti building near Jaslok hospital.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) evacuated eight residents and seven pets from the building. No injuries were reported in the incident. However, the owners suffered hefty loses of the designer clothes, which either were confined in the blaze or soiled during the fire fighting.
The fire was designated at Level II and the incident was reported at 7.40 am. The blaze was doused by 8.50 am. The showroom was shut when the fire erupted.
As per the statement released by the disaster management, "Six fire engines, eight jumbo tankers along with quick response vehicle and ambulance were rushed to the spot. Staff from BEST and Mumbai police were also on the site. The fire was confined to electrical wiring, installations, air conditioners, wooden partitions, carpets and stock of garments in an area of around 4000 sq ft of Libas showroom located on the ground floor of the ground plus six storeyed building."
"The MFB rescued four males from the first floor, four females, three dogs and cats from the fourth floor." The cause of the fire is yet to be identified, however preliminary information says the blaze erupted due to short circuit.
The incident also resulted in traffic jams in the area in the morning peak hours. Residents said that the roads were open for traversing after the fire was doused completely.
