Palghar, Maharashtra: In a broad daylight theft, an unidentified miscreant stole ₹50,000 in cash from the compartment of a scooter parked outside an Axis Bank ATM in Nalasopara East. The incident took place around 1:15 pm on July 22, 2025, in the Alkapuri area of Vasai.
The complainant, Nimesh Surendra Gupta, a 20-year-old local resident, had parked his Activa two-wheeler near the ATM while attempting to deposit cash into the machine. Gupta had earlier withdrawn ₹1.8 lakh and placed ₹50,000, in ₹500 denomination notes, inside the vehicle’s under-seat storage, while he carried ₹1.3 lakh with him for the deposit.
During the few minutes he was inside the ATM, an unknown thief allegedly managed to force open the vehicle’s storage compartment and fled with the remaining ₹50,000 cash without the complainant’s knowledge.

Realising the theft after returning to his scooter, Gupta immediately reported the matter to the Achole Police Station. A case has been registered under Section 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Sub-Inspector Sunil Gaikwad has been assigned as the investigating officer, and efforts are underway to identify the culprit through nearby CCTV footage and local surveillance. As of now, no arrests have been made.
