Palghar, Maharashtra: The Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation has announced that the 287th Vasai Vijayotsav celebrations have been shortened to a single day due to recent heavy rains.
The festival, which was scheduled to take place from May 10 to 12, 2025, has been shortened after heavy rains between May 6 and 8 led to waterlogging and muddy conditions at the main venue near the Narveer Chimaji Appa Smarak. With further rain predicted over the coming days, the civic body has opted for a condensed celebration on Monday, May 12, which coincides with Buddha Purnima.
The revised program will begin with the ceremonial lighting of a torch at 7 am at the Shri Vajreshwari Devi Temple in Vajreshwari. Following this event, a torch procession will proceed as a motorcycle rally to Vasai Parnaka.
The torch will then be carried in a motorcycle rally through several key locations, including Shirsad Phata, NH-48, Vasai Phata, Waliv Naka, Gokhivare Naka, and Ambadi Road, before reaching Vasai Parnaka. From there, the procession will continue towards Vasai Fort via the Tehsil.
At 11 am, a memorial ceremony will be held to honor Narveer Chimaji Appa, featuring floral tributes to his statue as well as a tribute to Lord Buddha.
The Municipal Corporation has urged all citizens to join the celebration and pay homage to the historical legacy of Vasai.
