Uber on Monday announced the launch of Courier XL in India, a new category under its logistics product, Courier, enabling deliveries of large goods, all with a few taps on the app. Powered by both 3-, and 4- wheeler goods carriers, Courier XL offers a fast, flexible, and tech-enabled solution for heavier shipments.

This expansion builds on the rapid growth of Uber Courier - Uber’s package delivery service on bikes & 2-wheelers in India. Since its launch, the service has expanded to 25 cities, and has been used by over 5 million users. Deliveries through Uber Courier rose by over 50% year-on-year during 2024, and the rate of growth has been on a further rise on the already high base during the first 3 months of 2025.

Courier XL brings the same benefits users have come to expect from Uber Courier, including live tracking, upfront pricing, on-demand convenience, seamless booking via the Uber app. The product has been launched in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with additional cities planned for launch over the coming months. Users can now send large packages up to 750 kgs through Courier XL.

Speaking on the launch, Shiva Shailendran, Director - Consumer & Growth, Uber India South Asia, said, “Courier XL is our answer to a growing demand from users - especially small businesses and households - who need a reliable way to move heavier goods across the city. Whether it’s inventory, furniture, or large parcels, we’re making big moves simpler and smarter.”

India’s on-demand logistics sector is growing rapidly, and Uber Courier is at the center of this shift, driven by how, when, and why users choose to send items across their cities. The average delivery distance for Courier deliveries in the country during 2024 was 11 kilometers, with Delhi NCR and Mumbai emerging as hubs for longer deliveries, averaging 14 km and 12 km respectively. At the extremes, Courier handled everything during 2024, from hyperlocal deliveries, such as a 750-metre trip in Chennai, to much larger movements like a 134 km delivery completed within Delhi NCR.

User behavior also reveals strong daily and weekly patterns. The most popular delivery window during 2024 was between 12 PM and 1 PM, which was likely used to send pre-packed lunch to offices and homes. Delhi NCR saw the highest demand for late-night deliveries, with nearly 10% of its trips occurring after 11 PM. Looking at weekly trends, demand for Courier services was highest from Monday to Wednesday nationwide.

Courier has been loved by users across the country since its launch, with the product being more than just parcels - it's about making life easier, especially during key moments. Courier witnesses demand spikes around festivals such as Rakshabandhan, Diwali, and Christmas, and topical days such as the upcoming Mother’s Day on May 11. Uber Courier’s store pickup feature and on-demand availability make it ideal for sending prepaid gifts and surprises.
