Mumbai: A 60-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday morning after being run over by a Mercedes near Chimbai Beat Chowki, Bandra West. Kasturba Chavan, who lived near Carter Road and visited a tea stall daily, was having tea when driver Jeeva Munecha, 41, accidentally ran her over. Munecha had just bought her tea moments earlier.

Driver Fails to Spot Woman Sitting in Front of Car

According to the police, the car is owned by Upendra Singh, a businessman. Munecha, who lives in Khar Danda, was employed to drive the car. He would often buy Kasturba tea and sometimes vada pav before leaving forwork. That morning, Chavan sat in front of the car without Munecha noticing, as the vehicle’s height obstructed his view.

Munecha and a local rushed her to Bhabha Hospital, where she was declared dead. The police said Munecha treated Chavan like a mother and was visibly shaken after the incident. The CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts confirmed it was unintentional. The Bandra police registered a case against Munecha for dangerous driving andcausing death by negligence.

In two separate hit-andruns, which took place in Bandra East, two people lost their lives.

Motorcyclist Killed in Bandra Hit-and-Run

In the first case, the victim, Abdul Qureshi, 58, who ran a mutton shop, was riding his motorcycle towards the Bandra railway bridge on Wednesday between 4.15pm and 4.30pm. Upon reaching the MMRDA junction, an unidentified vehicle hit the rear of his motorcycle and fled. After receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and transported him to Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Another hit-and-run was reported on Tuesday. The victim, Neelkanth Chavan, 41, a labourer, was crossing the Western Express Highway in front of the Teachers' Colony bus stop when an unidentified vehicle struck him. The Kherwadi police transported him to Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead.
