A 32-year-old woman and her three minor daughters died by committing suicide at their home in Phenegaon in Bhiwandi, within the jurisdiction of the Bhiwandi City Police Station, on Saturday morning. The entire locality was shocked to hear about the mass suicide in the family.

Thane: A 32-year-old woman and her three minor daughters died by committing suicide at their home in Phenegaon in Bhiwandi, within the jurisdiction of the Bhiwandi City Police Station, on Saturday morning.

The entire locality was shocked to hear about the mass suicide in the family. The husband was on night duty on Friday while his wife and three children were at home when the suicide was committed, said an officer.

The police said that the husband has been identified as Lalji Banwarilal Bharti, who lives with his wife Punita, 32, who is a ladies' tailor by profession, and their three daughters Nandini, 12, who studies in sixth grade, Neha, 7, who studies in second grade, and Anu, 4, who studies in first grade, in Bhiwandi. They all live in a ground-plus-one-storied chawl in Phenegaon, Bhiwandi on rented for one years However they originally hails from Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, Bharti, who worked as a labourer in a powerloom factory in Bhiwandi, was on night duty on Friday. He left home at 8 PM and returned home on Saturday at 9 PM. He repeatedly knocked on the door, but no one responded from inside the home.

Upon being bothered, he attempted to peek through the windows and found that his wife and three daughters were hanging from the ceiling of the house. Thereafter, he alerted his neighbors about it, and then they immediately alerted the police.

The police said that after receiving information about a mass suicide at a home, they immediately rushed to the spot and alerted the ambulance. As soon as they reached the spot and unlocked the door, they found that four people, including three minor girls, were hanging from the ceiling's angle using dupattas. They pulled them down, and they were all deceased. The bodies were immediately sent to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi, where the post-mortem was performed.

Krishna Kharat, senior police inspector, said, "We have called a forensic team and collected the evidence from the spot. We collected the dupatta used for suicide. We conducted the panchnama of the spot. During the preliminary investigation, we found a suicide note mentioning that no one should be responsible for their suicide and seized the note. Further investigation is ongoing into the matter."

The investigating officer said that the police are questioning Bharti regarding why her wife took the drastic step. So far, no concrete reason has been ruled out in the matter. However, prima facies, an Accidentall Death report was filed with Bhiwandi city police station.

DCP Mohan Dahikar Bhiwandi said, "The motive behind the suicide is unknown so far. We are probing into all possible angles. The exact cause of death will be established after the report of the post-mortem."

The police are probing all possible angles, including financial hardship, domestic stress, or other issues that may have driven the woman to take such a drastic step.
