Thane: A 30-year-old man allegedly raped a mentally challenged minor girl in Kalyan Taluka on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Sunil Pawar (30), who lived with family members in Titwala. The police said that the 17-year-old victim lived with her grandmother in the same locality. The incident took place in Titwala on Wednesday when the victim was alone.
According to police sources, the accused approached her and took her to his room under the pretext of some work and allegedly raped her. Following the incident, she narrated the entire episode to her mother when she reached home. They promptly approached the police station and filed an FIR against him.
Reshama Gurunath Bhope, representing the accused, stated that the police did not produce any documents regarding the victim's mental challenges instead on oral submissions before the court. Two days of police custody were granted for medical examination and Panchanama.

Suresh Kadam, senior police inspector from Titwala Police Station, said, "We filed an FIR against him based on the victim's complaint. We have arrested the accused from the locality. The accused was produced in the special POCSO court in Kalyan and remanded into police custody for two days for further investigation."
