A 28-year-old tanker driver was trapped inside his vehicle after losing control and colliding with another truck on Thane’s Ghodbunder Road early Saturday morning. The injured driver has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, who was stuck in the cabin following the accident.
The incident occurred around 4 AM in the Waghbil area, when a tanker carrying 32,000 litres of boiler oil en route to Ghodbunder from Thane lost control and rammed into a truck moving in the same direction. Bystanders immediately alerted the local police and the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC).
Officials from the RDMC of the Thane Municipal Corporation said they received the alert and promptly dispatched a hydra crane, fire tender, pickup truck, and ambulance to the site.
An RDMC official stated that the driver, who had sustained injuries to both legs, was rescued within 20 minutes and rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for treatment. The oil in the tanker remained intact, and the vehicle was removed from the road using hydra machines. The incident caused a traffic jam lasting around 40 minutes, which was later cleared by traffic police, restoring normal movement on Ghodbunder Road.
