Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is to finish all the pre-monsoon tasks before May 20. A meeting was held recently under the leadership of Commissioner Saurabh Rao to check on the progress of this work.
In the meeting, Rao told all agencies to be alert and make sure tasks like drain cleaning, road repair, and tree trimming are completed on time. The aim is to get the city ready before the rains begin and avoid problems like waterlogging and traffic jams that usually happen during the monsoon.

BMC Completes Only 56% Drain Desilting On Mithi River Ahead Of Monsoon
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is facing criticism for being too slow. As of May 5, BMC has completed only 56 per cent of the drain desilting work. The Mithi River, which is one of the most important stormwater drains in the city, has only seen 29 per cent of the cleaning work done.

Desilting work for small and big drains in Mumbai started at the end of March. Work on the Mithi River began in April. According to the Storm Water Drain (SWD) department's progress report, just 43.66 per cent of work in the city area is done. In the western suburbs, 54.96 per cent is complete, and in the eastern suburbs, 61.27 per cent.
Citizens are unhappy with the delay and say uncollected silt from the drains is causing problems. Many are now worried that the city may not be ready in time for the heavy rains.
