Mumbra, Thane: The Mumbra Police have detained four individuals for allegedly assaulting a 33-year-old auto rickshaw driver following a dispute over parking.
Victim and Accused Identified
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Siddique, an auto rickshaw driver residing with his family at Rashid Compound in Mumbra. The accused have been named as Atique Khan (35), who runs a parking business; Imran Kurshi (32); Shaif Noor Mohammad Ansari (34); and Mohammad Shafi Aslam Shaikh (25) all drivers and residents of Mumbra.
Incident Near Salwa Hotel
The assault took place near Salwa Hotel, under the jurisdiction of Mumbra Police Station, on August 8 at around 3:30 p.m. According to police, Siddique was attacked with bamboo sticks by three to four individuals over a parking issue.
Viral Video Leads Police to Victim
A video of the assault went viral on social media. After verifying the footage, police traced the injured man and found him receiving treatment at a hospital.
Dispute at Rickshaw Stand
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Siddique had been parking his auto rickshaw at Faiyyaz’s rickshaw stand at Y Junction. An argument over parking reportedly escalated into the assault.
Accused Detained Under BNS Act
Senior Police Inspector Anil Shinde stated, “The injured, Siddique, is currently undergoing treatment and has not yet filed an official complaint. He has informed us that he will do so after his recovery. Meanwhile, based on the viral video, we have detained the accused under Section 170(1) of the BNS Act.”
