Mumbai: In the alleged medical negligence death case of 40-year-old Megha Salvi at Thane-based Lake City Hospital in February, the hospital authorities have taken to social media to assert that there was absolutely no negligence on their part. They stated that all standard medical protocols and post-surgical care procedures were thoroughly followed with utmost care throughout her treatment.
However, Megha’s family, who continue to seek justice, have refused to sign any No Objection Certificate (NOC) in the matter. They claim that the hospital is allegedly attempting to cover up its wrongdoings.
In a statement released on the social networking site, titled “Official Statement from Lakecity Hospital,” the hospital administration said: “We would like to clarify that there was no negligence on the part of the hospital or the treating doctors. All standard medical protocols and post-surgical care procedures were followed thoroughly and with utmost care throughout her(Megha’s) treatment. It is important to note that the family has signed a No Objection Certificate (NOC) clearly stating that there was no negligence by the treating medical team. We have observed a series of false allegations and defamatory content being circulated on social media and our Google Reviews page… In light of this serious threat, we have deployed security personnel and bouncers at the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, and doctors.”
When FPJ contacted Dr. Nandan Pujari, owner of Lake City Hospital, he said: “The relatives signed an NOC at Lakecity and Jupiter Hospital absolving the treating doctors of any negligence on 22/2/2025. Over a month later, this issue of negligence has come up. Why are they changing their statement now? Defamation on social media, blaming the hospital and doctors for the death, labeling it as murder, and issuing threats against the concerned doctors is completely illegal. They have not heard our side of the story and have already declared us guilty. Medically speaking, this was a complication arising from the procedure, without any negligence on the part of the treating doctors. We are ready to present our case before any medical board of inquiry. However, we will not tolerate violence or defamation of any kind until the board delivers its verdict. The matter will soon be referred to the medical board by the police.”
Meanwhile, when FPJ contacted Kanika Salvi, Megha’s sister-in-law, who is leading the fight in the alleged medical negligence case, she said: “Lake City Hospital is falsely claiming that our family signed a No Objection Certificate (NOC) stating that no medical negligence occurred in Megha’s death. This is untrue — we only signed standard consent forms, which do not waive our right to raise concerns about negligence. After we clarified this (on the social media’s announcement), the hospital quietly deleted its official statement from all social media. If there was no wrongdoing, why remove it?
Furthermore, allegations by the hospital’s owner, Dr. Nandan Pujari, that we threatened doctors are completely baseless. The only confrontation was a verbal argument on 29th March 2025, when we observed from torn medical records being replaced — a deeply suspicious act. We stand firm in seeking justice for Megha and demand full transparency and accountability.”
