A 40-room three-storey building named Adinarayan at New Ayre Road, Dombivli East collapsed at 4.30 pm on Friday. A woman and a senior citizen are trapped under the rubble and efforts are underway to rescue them.
Arvind Sambhaji Bhatkar (70) and Geeta Lodhia (45) are trapped under the debris. Since the building owned by one Eknath Patil was in a dangerous condition and was showing signs of collapse since Friday morning many of the tenants had vacated it. However, Bhatkar and Lodhia were unable to evacuate the building on time. They were resting on their beds when the collapse took place.
Thane TDRF team & firefighters are working at the scene. Efforts are underway to cut iron rods with the help of electric cutters to evacuate the trapped people.
The municipal administration has started work to evacuate the trapped people using breakers, JCP, Poclain machines etc. Municipal Commissioner Dr Bhausaheb Dandge is present at the spot along with senior officials.
As per information, Thane Disaster Response Team (TDRF), fire brigade personnel, municipal administration and police have rushed to the site and efforts are underway to rescue people buried under the debris.
Commissioner Bhausaheb Dangde of Kalyan Dombivli Mahapalika informed about this incident saying, "Our Assistant Commissioner and other colleagues rushed to the spot after realising that the building was collapsing. They evacuated the residents living in the building. But still the information that two people are trapped has come to light."
