Thane: The Thane Rural Police launched a special drive to curb drug activity in the rural areas and arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly possessing 7 kilograms of ganja intended for sale in the area of Vasind in Shahapur taluka, Thane. The accused has been identified as Vishal Vasant Shelar (28), a resident of Shahapur.
The rural police said that on May 15, two policemen - Mahesh Kadam and Paraksh Sail were on duty and were patrolling within the Vasind police jurisdiction. They received information that ganja was kept in a room in Khativli village.
Thereafter, they informed their senior police officers. They formed a team and raided a building in Khativli in Shahapur, where they found 7 kilograms of ganja worth over Rs 2 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 5 lakh from the possession of the accused. Then the accused was arrested.

The police said they performed the seizure panchanam in the matter and confiscated ganja and cash. An FIR has been filed against him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The accused was arrested, produced in court, and remanded into police custody for further investigation.
According to police sources, they are working to determine the location where it was brought and the identity of the buyer who purchase it.
