Thane: The Naupada police have arrested a habitual offender who allegedly stole three auto rickshaw and two two-wheeler in Thane and Mumbai. The accused has been identified as Yash Deepak Kothari, alias Yasin Husain Pathan (32), a resident of Borivali in Mumbai.
On June 26, a police team was patrolling in the jurisdiction of Naupada police station and received information about a man who was roaming in the area.
Acting on the tip-off, they approached the spot and questioned him. Subsequently, he became fearful and confessed that he had stolen an auto rickshaw. The police then took him to the police station.
According to the police, he has been accused in a case of theft that was lodged at the Naupada police station and later produced in court, where he was remanded into police custody for further investigation.
During interrogation, it was revealed that five theft cases had already been filed against him. The police confiscated three auto rickshaws and two motorcycles, valued at Rs 2,55,000, from the accused.
Investigation officer Mangesh Bhange stated that the accused has a modus operandi where he steals auto rickshaws, ferries passengers, and earns an income. He leaves the auto rickshaws anywhere when the fuel is empty.
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that he did this for enjoyment. Preliminary investigations suggest that a total of 19 offenses have been registered against him in Thane and Mumbai.
Out of 19, 16 FIRs were filed at Borivali police station, one at Vakola, one at Charlotte, and one at MIDC police station. Furthermore, the investigation into this matter is underway.
