In a disturbing incident, a 15-year-old girl allegedly pushed off the terrace of her 30-storey building by her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend in Mumbai's Bhandup West area. Initially, she was believed to have died by suicide on June 24.
The boy, a former schoolmate and also a resident of Bhandup, has now been booked for murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act. The case will be heard before the Juvenile Justice Board since the accused is a minor.
Investigators said the girl met the boy on the terrace of her residential building near the water tank. The two reportedly had a personal conversation during which she expressed distress about her low marks and being teased by other boys. She also requested to rekindle their relationship, a proposal the boy rejected.
An argument broke out between the two and in a moment of rage, the boy allegedly pushed her off the terrace. CCTV footage, witness statements, and a dummy trajectory test helped police establish foul play, contradicting the boy’s earlier claim of suicide.
According to the FIR, after pushing her, the boy also threw her mobile phone from the terrace in an attempt to destroy evidence and mislead the investigation.
Initially, the case was registered as an accidental death based on the boy’s version and preliminary findings. However, forensic inputs and surveillance footage shifted the case’s direction, leading to a murder charge.
The girl’s sudden death has left the local community in shock, raising questions about teen mental health, relationships, and access to emotional support.
