Mumbai: Mumbai has seen a significant rise in temperatures this week, starting with a maximum of 33.4°C on Monday and reaching 37.2°C by Saturday, which is 5.2°C above normal levels, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

This represents the peak temperature increase for February in the city. At the Colaba weather station, the maximum temperature recorded was 35°C, which is 4.4°C above normal.

While the minimum temperature was 23.4°C, 2.5°C higher than usual, as reported by Hindustan Times. The major fluctuations in temperature are attributed to changes in weather, signaling the arrival of summer in Mumbai, according to Sunil Kamble, Director of IMD Mumbai. The temperature is expected to continue rising for the next three to four days, based on current forecasts.

One of the key factors influencing these temperature changes is the wind pattern. “Easterly winds, which help reduce temperatures prevail until noon. After that, the wind direction shifts to north-westerly, which lacks the ability to lower temperatures. This change leads to a spike in daytime temperatures,” he explained.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Sunday, February 23, the city's minimum temperature will be approximately 25.99 degrees Celsius, while its maximum temperature will be approximately 29.74 degrees Celsius.

The sky will likely be clear throughout the day, according to the forecast. By the end of the week, Mumbai is expected to see a higher temperature. The highest temperature might be around 36 degrees.

The IMD predicts that on Monday, February 24, the city will see minimum temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. The wind is predicted to blow persistently from the north at 21 km/h, and the humidity will probably be about 28 percent.
