Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray urged Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to expedite the handover of 556 newly built housing units in Worli's BDD chawls to their rightful residents ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival.
Thackeray Writes To Fadnavis Over Delayed Key Handover
In a letter addressed to Fadnavis, Thackeray emphasized that the first phase of the long-awaited BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project has been completed, and the flats have already been allotted to eligible tenants. However, the formal possession and key handover are still pending.
Residents Await New Homes To Celebrate Ganeshotsav
“The residents are eager to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in their new homes,” said Thackeray, who represents the Worli Assembly constituency. “It’s unfair to keep them waiting while they continue to live in rented or transit accommodations.”
He further noted that handing over the keys would not only fulfill a long-standing promise to the people but also help free up transit housing for other tenants affected by ongoing redevelopment. This, he argued, would accelerate the overall pace of the massive redevelopment project.

Faster Possession To Speed Up Redevelopment Cycle
The BDD chawls, many of which are located in Worli, are undergoing significant redevelopment to replace aging structures with modern residential complexes. The project aims to transform decades-old living conditions while ensuring that original tenants retain their housing rights.
