Mumbai: Former Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede has approached the National Commission of Scheduled Caste (NCSC) against the agency’s Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh.
Mr Wankhede has alleged harassment and atrocities by Mr Singh, who is NCB’s chief vigilance officer. Mr Singh was part of the Special Enquiry Team (SET) that had found lapses in the Aryan Khan drugs case initiated in October last year after a raid on Cordelia cruise. The commission has desired that no further action in the matter be taken till the pendency of the case with it. Mr Singh did not respond to calls seeking his comment.
The NCB’s vigilance team that was making enquiries into the corruption allegations in connection with the case involving Aryan Khan had submitted its report to the agency’s Director General three months ago.
In its report, the team had stated that some “selective decisions” were made at the time of the case and have reportedly pointed out some lapses and irregularities on the part of at least seven to eight NCB officials then associated with the case.
The commission on Tuesday stated, “A complaint/ information has been received on October 17 from Sameer Wankhede, and the commission has decided to investigate/ inquire into the matter. The petitioner has also met the chairman and discussed his case in detail.
The commission has observed that there appears to be discrimination and harassment of the petitioner. Therefore, the commission has desired that no further action in the matter be taken till the pendency of the case.”
As per the commission’s statement, it has desired that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Board submit the original SET documents before the commission for perusal and examination.
Mr Wankhede told the Free Press Journal, “I cannot comment as the matter is with the commission now. We were harassed, humiliated and discriminated against by an NCB official for a year after which I had approached the commission.”
Meawnhile, the NCSC has directed Singh to submit full facts, documents, the report of the internal inquiry within 15 days failing which it could launch legal proceedings in the civil courts.
