The Congress party on Wednesday (April 3) expelled Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years on the ground of indiscipline and anti-party statements. Sanjay Nirupam had earlier hit out at the Congress state leadership in Maharashtra over seat-sharing issue with the Shiv Sena.
"Taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, the Hon'ble Congress President has approved the expulsion of Shri Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years with immediate effect," said the Congress party in its post on X.
Nirupam's expulsion from the Congress party was announced on late Wednesday evening by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, citing complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements. This move followed Nirupam's string of remarks against Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray, as well as comments regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of another party ally, AAP, which contradicted Congress' official stance.

Speculation Surrounding Sanjay Nirupam's Future Political Career
Former two-time Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena and ex-Mumbai North Lok Sabha MP of the Congress, Sanjay Nirupam, faced expulsion from the Congress after making anti-party statements. Sensing his dissent, the state Congress dropped him from the party's list of star campaigners for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed that a proposal for disciplinary action against Nirupam had been sent to the party's high command without issuing a show-cause notice. Despite this, Nirupam remained adamant and suggested that the party should focus on saving itself from the financial crisis instead of targeting him.
Nirupam hinted at making a decision about his future on April 4 and there's speculation that he may consider joining either the BJP or the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
