Navi Mumbai: More than 300 young skaters from across Maharashtra showcased their talent in the first-ever Raigad Open Roller Skating Championship 2025. The event was jointly organized by Kharghar Sports Academy and KS Foundation as part of Maharashtra Day and Labour Day celebration.

The state-level championship drew participants from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Pune, and Sambhajinagar, ranging in age from 3 to 15 years. The full-day event was a display of speed, skill, and sporting spirit as students competed across multiple age categories, with many achieving podium finishes.

The competition was inaugurated by Dr. Devanand Ubale, Director of the Scheduled Castes Commission and Food Processing Industries, Delhi, and Pravin Deshpande, an international-level skater and Shiv Chhatrapati awardee. Both dignitaries commended the championship’s role in promoting grassroots sports.

The international-quality skating rink was stated to groom future national and international-level athletes.

The event was attended by several local leaders and dignitaries, including former MP Ramsheth Thakur, MLA Prashant Thakur, MLC Vikrant Patil, and others, who applauded the efforts of Kiran Patil (President, Kharghar Sports Academy) and Netra Patil in promoting youth development through sports.

Organizers reported that nearly every participant from Kharghar Sports Academy secured medals, a testament to the quality of training and commitment of coaches, especially Mohammad Siyad and his team. Special trophies were awarded to those who had previously won gold at the district and national levels.

The event concluded with a commitment from the organizers to continue building sports infrastructure in Kharghar, including plans for a gymkhana or stadium in the near future.
